HTPC and PVR the home for MegaEPG

Please remember that September 16 at 2:00 (tonight) the daylight saving time ends in Israel and we move to the standard time which is one hour back: the time will be 1:00. A special attention is required during time switching otherwise your EPG might be one hour shifted. MegaEPG takes the timezone and DST flag from the operating system. You have to turn the DST flag off in the system time Time Zone properties (or verify it's off and the time is correct).

If you are using Microsoft Vista, you should download a patch that corrects fixed dates for Jerusalem timezone. I'd also recommend all Windows users to switch the internet time synchronization off for about a week untill all the time servers recognize Israel standard time.

Please ensure that your EPG is correct tomorrow! Even if your timezone and the system clock are ok, providers may forget to change the time offset and you'll see a shift. Let me know if any script provides wrong times!

I shouldn't tell you a long story about how much efforts the MegaEPG development takes. It simply takes a lot. But I would not ask for donations if my own efforts was the only reason. It is obvious to me that no amount within a donation scheme can cover the time I spend supporting the MegaEPG project. I decided to ask for donations because the nature of HTPC makes it very expensive to build the supporting environment for the project. People ask me about the Windows 7 and Windows Vista and Linux and they use various commercial and free PVR software. I try to buy additional TV cards (a must have device for any media system and the sad thing is that piece of hardware can not be shared by a virtualization system) and have to buy software licenses and just hope the donations will help me to afford this kind of expenses. I don't want to make the MegaEPG a commercial software regardless of how well the donations work. I want to thank you for your interest in the project and appreciate the decision to donate!

The site has been redesigned. The first version based on the famous WP engine did not meet my requirements for the site management. All the content, users and the forum were transferred to the new engine and I hope nothing got lost. I'm sorry for any inconvenience the transition may cause. Update the RSS feed links if you are using RSS readers.

The latest MegaEPG release can be downloaded from the site here or from the download.com mirror (please verify the mirror has the latest version first, it may take few weeks till they accept the updated version!). For previous releases look in the tables below.

The MegaEPG package has been signed by the pvr.co.il certificate and timestamped in order to verify its integrity and authenticity. You are advised to install the pvr.co.il certificate and verify that the megaepg_setup.exe file was not tampered. The Vista operating system would check the publisher authenticity every time you run the MegaEPG. This method is more convenient than checking against the package checksum. Please do NOT use an unsigned copy of the MegaEPG!

If you are experiencing synchronization problems with Israel summer time, it’s advised to temporarily disable the Automatically adjust clock for daylight saving changes in the System-Control Panel-Date and Time-Time Zone tab. Disable also the Internet time synchronization till the time servers in the world know about the DST change in Israel.

Set the correct clock then and rerun the MegaEPG. There is no need to remove the cache.

Software license

First of all I’ve updated the channels definition file (--link removed as outdated--) with the latest Yes channels: Yes Stars 1,2,3. Discontinued channels (like StarWorld, Tchelet and Channel 3) were removed. Download the file (right click the link and choose “Save as”) and replace the one installed. Windows XP/MCE 2005 users have to put the channels.xml file to c:\Program Files\MegaEPG\Data directory. Vista users should put the file to c:\Users\username\AppData\Local\MegaEPG directory (replace username with the real user name).Vista users are also advised to remember this directory path of the MegaEPG data. Add it to Favorites or create a shortcut for further data updates either for the channels definition file or for the configuration file megaepg.ini

I get more and more complaints about bad accuracy of the EPG provided by walla. I never found it very reliable, but it seems they are getting worse. We can excuse lack of data but a wrong data (wrong hours, overall schedule shifting) can’t be excused. I recommend not to use the walla script. I’ll remove it from the distribution for the next version, providing it for a separate download or maybe even removing completely.
