Why yet another EPG grabber?

There are many EPG grabbers out there, indeed. However I wasn't able to find one which was a) fast but accurate, b) easy to install and configure, c) working with the native MCE/Vista guide formats. Some of them require too much as prerequisites (once I had to install a few versions of .NET and a few versions of the Java Runtime to try a single grabber!), others are too slow and stress providers' servers heavily. I didn't like existing solutions because they are not friednly for the end user. Besides, most of the grabbers obtain only basic information while I was interested in as perfect grabber as possible: I wanted programs' original name, year of production, episode numbers parsing, stars rating, etc. The MegaEPG project is a try to implement these ideas:

  • It doesn't make you download and install run-time platforms and 3d party application/services creating a garbage or instability conditions in the operating system. All you need is in the "box" and nothing is copied into the system directories.
  • It is friendly for you, friendly for the media center application and friendly for the TV provider website (as much as possible of course, considering that EPG grabbing is not a trivial task).
  • It creates the most possible complete and accurate guides.
